There are eight more league matches to go, with each of the eight teams in the ICC Women’s World Cup 2022 playing at least four games. The only team that has already qualified for the semi-finals is Australia, while the other seven are still fighting for a place in the top four. Among them is Mithali Raj’s Team India, who reached the World Cup final in 2017. India is fourth in the points rankings with two victories in five matches, the same as England, thanks to a better net run rate.

India started their tour of New Zealand with a stunning 107-run victory against arch-rivals Pakistan. However, they faltered in their following encounter, losing by 62 runs against the host country in Hamilton. After a 155-run triumph against the West Indies at the same location, India’s Women in Blue were narrowly defeated by both England and Australia.

India will face Bangladesh in Hamilton on March 22 and South Africa in Christchurch on March 27.

Of course, winning both games would be one of India’s qualifying possibilities, but it will be a difficult assignment for the Indian squad- although Bangladesh has suffered in the competition, winning just one of their four games, South Africa has stayed undefeated in as many games.

This will also be contingent on the West Indies, who were defeated by Pakistan on Monday, losing their last game against South Africa, leaving them with just six points, and England, the reigning champions, losing one of their final two matches. As a result, South Africa will qualify for the semi-finals, while India will compete for third place.
