Due to the lingering symptoms of concussion after receiving a devastating knock to the head during the PSL’s final stages, South Africa’s Faf du Plessis will miss his team Northern Superchargers’ first three games of the English cricket‘s new Hundred competition.

When Du Plessis’ head connected with his Quetta Gladiators teammate Mohammad Hasnain’s knee during a match against Peshawar Zalmi in Abu Dhabi in June, he received his first concussion. He was forced to withdraw from the event due to injury, and he returned to South Africa before heading to Croatia to quarantine ahead of the Hundred.

The Northern Superchargers medical staff has been evaluating the 37-year-old batter since his arrival last Friday and has determined that he should rest for the first three games. They’ll keep an eye on his improvement.

He was supposed to captain the Superchargers in the Hundred, but Ben Stokes took control in his place against Welsh Fire on Saturday night.

Stokes will lead the team against the Trent Rockets, with a new captain – most likely David Willey or Chris Lynn – standing in against the Originals on Wednesday.
