India has become the first cricketing nation to register 1000 ODI’s and with that, they have achieved a couple of noteworthy milestones. Despite a rough spell in recent years, Chahal has played exceptionally well in the opening ODI. He took two wickets in his first over alone, off back-to-back deliveries. He took his third wicket in his second over and, to top it off, he rounded off the West Indian innings by taking his fourth in his penultimate over. Chahal reached his 100th ODI wicket in just 60 matches with his first wicket of Nicholas Pooran. He was the sixth-fastest Indian overall and second fastest spinner behind his former spin partner Kuldeep Yadav.

With the West Indies in danger at 71 for 4, Kieron Pollard, the captain, needed a big innings. Instead, he was snubbed for a golden duck in a terrible manner. This was his seventh golden duck in one-day internationals, fourth as captain, third in India, and second against India. Arjuna Ranathunga is the only other skipper in India’s ODI history to have as many golden ducks as Pollard. He now has four golden ducks as an ODI captain, joining Angelo Mathews, Eoin Morgan, Mohammed Azharuddin, Prosper Utseya, and Sourav Ganguly. Only Australia’s Allan Border has more (5).

India scored 67 runs in the first ten overs without the openers being separated. Rohit had 46 out of the 70, with a strike rate of 124.3. Rohit Sharma’s 46 runs in the opening ten overs of an ODI innings are the most he has ever scored in a single innings.

Kohli reached 5000 ODI runs at home with his second boundary. After Sachin Tendulkar, Ricky Ponting, and Jacques Kallis, he became the fourth batsman in the format to achieve this achievement. He was the fastest among the elite list, which added to his glory. No other batsman has done it in under 120 innings.
