Sunrisers Hyderabad needed some peace and quiet in their nucleus, particularly after a nightmare IPL 2021. During the chaos produced by a coronavirus, their campaign never got off the ground, and it was quickly revealed that the David Warner incident was just the tipping point. The Australian was fired as captain halfway through the season after leading Hyderabad to its first championship triumph in 2016. To add to the confusion, Warner was benched from the starting lineup, with Williamson assuming command as the team’s captain. Warner’s time with the Sunrisers came to an end with the team finishing with the wooden spoon and with three victories out of 14 games.

During his time with the team, Warner amassed over 4000 runs, including three IPL seasons of 600 runs or more. His batting talent was evident in his consistency. However, the club must move on from the fallout, and Warner isn’t the first high-profile figure to leave Hyderabad. Rashid Khan’s departure from SRH, one of the most dependable spinners in T20 cricket, was one of the most talked-about occurrences when the retention list was revealed. Although it is unclear if Rashid’s non-retention will haunt the Orange Army this year, they have bolstered their spin assault by signing Shreyas Gopal and Jagadeesha Suchith for 75 million and 20 lakh, respectively, Rashid’s departure, though, has left the Sunrisers with enormous shoes to fill.

Hyderabad had kept Williamson (14 Cr) and the youthful duo of Abdul Samad (4 Cr) and Umran Malik (14 Cr) before the auction (4 Cr), Samad and Malik are strong possibilities for the future, while Williamson provides them faith in the leadership group. Samad will be tasked with bolstering the team’s shaky middle order, while Malik’s raw speed might help him have a breakout season.
