Keegan Petersen, a South African batter, has been tested positive for COVID-19 and is replaced by Zubayr Hamza for the next two test series.

“He will miss the series against New Zealand after testing positive for COVID-19. The number three batsman is in good health and has no symptoms. To safeguard his physical and mental well-being, the CSA medical team will keep in close contact with him. Zubayr Hamza of the Six Gun Grill in Western Province will take his spot on the trip,” according to CSA media release.

Petersen was South Africa’s best run scorer in the recently finished Test series against India, and he was also named player of the series. After losing the first Test in Centurion, South Africa won the next two Tests to secure the series. Hamza has appeared in five matches and made 181 runs from ten innings since his last Test against England in 2020. In the format, he has one half-century, with a high of 62 against India in Ranchi in 2019.

This will be New Zealand’s first test series after the retirement of Ross Taylor. Taylor played his last test match in Christchurch against Bangladesh.
