Archer, who has been advertised for INR 2 crore and will not be competing in the IPL 2022 due to injury, drew immediate attention from Mumbai. Rajasthan Royals made a frenzied effort to re-acquire the England bowler. The Sunrisers Hyderabad tried to steal the pacer with an offer of INR 7 crore, but Mumbai had their plans and money in place, and their INR 8 crore price secured the deal.

“The ECB has registered Jofra Archer for the auction with a view to future participation in 2023 and 2024,” IPL chief operating officer Hemang Amin had told the franchises ahead of the auction.

“As a result, his name has been added to the auction list, but he will not appear in the marquee or any of the other sets that will be displayed. He will be eligible for selection at the expedited auction, and whoever selects him will not get a replacement player for the IPL 2022 season, given he is now ailing and unlikely to play”, according to a report by the Hindustan Times.
