MSK Prasad has come forward with his opinion on who should replace Mohammed Siraj for the final Test match against South Africa. Siraj suffered a hamstring injury which effectively ruled him out of the series and has allowed the selectors to choose from a few options that are available.
Prasad believes Umesh Yadav or Ishant Sharma should replace Siraj, and he even gave his reasons for the same. “We were missing a tall fast bowler in Johannesburg, and Ishant is the only one we have. On these types of tunes, he’s my first option over Umesh. Umesh would be my “go-to” man if the course was tough and felt like a dustbowl in India,” he stated.
Deep Dasgupta, who is a former wicket keeper and has supported Prasad in his choice, stated, “I won’t be able to say if Kohli still believes in Ishant’s ability as he did in 2019. Even so, if Ishant is used in this game, he may be more useful than Umesh. He would strike difficult lengths with that height, and secondly, because of his ability to keep the batsmen quiet for extended periods of time, which sadly didn’t happen on a bowler-friendly surface at the Wanderers. Ishant can bowl a strong eight to ten-over spell, and if the trend continues, a first innings score of 275 in Test matches in these circumstances is the new 350.”
With the series being levelled in the last match, it will be interesting to see who will come out on top in the final match in Capetown.
