The Indian Premier League (IPL) will have an impact on a player’s prospects of joining the Indian T20 World Cup team in 2022, which will be hosted in Australia later this month. Those in the thick of it will want to establish their value and solidify their position, while those on the fringes will try to strengthen their case. Dinesh Karthik, the veteran India wicketkeeper-batsman, was not even considered for the World Cup as a fringe player, but the 36-year-old is certainly building a case for the big competition with his finishing skills.

Karthik has a strike rate of 204.5 and has scored 90 runs in just 44 balls in three matches this season. His scores were 32 off 14, 14 off 7, and 44 off 23 for Royal Challengers Bangalore’s latest addition, who has been playing well down the order for the team. His last wicket was crucial in RCB’s four-wicket triumph against Rajasthan Royals, which came despite a top-order collapse.

Since the setback, talk has lingered around Karthik’s possible return to India, with even the seasoned player expressing his intentions.

Former India head coach Ravi Shastri stated that with the team in need of a finisher like MS Dhoni, the seasoned Karthik appears to be a viable option, but India must bear in mind the amount of wicket keepers in the squad.
